Hi everyone!! thank-you so much for stopping by today.

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

My WoW for this week is…

Title: A Shadow Bright and Burning

Author: Jessica Cluess

Release Date: September 20th 2016

Publisher: Random House BFYR

Genre: Fantasy, Historical Fiction, YA

GOODREADS

Henrietta Howel can burst into flames.
Forced to reveal her power to save a friend, she’s shocked when instead of being executed, she’s invited to train as one of Her Majesty’s royal sorcerers.

Thrust into the glamour of Victorian London, Henrietta is declared the chosen one, the girl who will defeat the Ancients, bloodthirsty demons terrorizing humanity. She also meets her fellow sorcerer trainees, handsome young men eager to test her power and her heart. One will challenge her. One will fight for her. One will betray her.

But Henrietta Howel is not the chosen one.
As she plays a dangerous game of deception, she discovers that the sorcerers have their own secrets to protect. With battle looming, what does it mean to not be the one? And how much will she risk to save the city–and the one she loves?

Exhilarating and gripping, Jessica Cluess’s spellbinding fantasy introduces Henrietta Howel, a powerful, unforgettable heroine, and an entertaining world filled with magic, monsters, and mayhem.

WHY I’M WAITING

“Henrietta Howel can burst into flames.” From the first sentence of the blur. I was hooked!!

How can that sentence NOT have you wanting this book? If that’s not enough here’s a “few” more pointers that this book will be outstanding!!!

It’s set in an alternate Victorian era London, full of demons and sorcerers. Henrietta is declared the chosen one. However she is not “actually” the chosen one.

A Shadow Bright and Burning sounds like it has all the key points of a good story. Powerful heroine, unforgettable and a world filled with magic, monsters, and mayhem.

Early praise are stating this book as “Part Harry Potter, part Jane Austen” If that doesn’t sound like an unputdownable plot, I don’t know what does.

WOW

About Jessica Cluess

Jessica Cluess grew up in Los Angeles, moved to Chicago, and then moved back when the weather became too weather-y. She now lives in a place full of sunshine and traffic. Former work experience includes performing ‘Cinderella’ for most of Texas and serving coffee to Orson Scott Card. A graduate of Northwestern University, she uses her education to analyze the subtle and intricate history of the Victorian era, then jams monsters and sorcerers into the mix.
Jessica’s debut YA fantasy A SHADOW BRIGHT AND BURNING (Random House, September 20, 2016) tells the story of a young girl who is selected as the first-ever female sorcerer, the Chosen One who must save the empire. But the glamour of her new life hides enemies who would love to know her dark secret–that she might not be the Chosen One after all.
