First rule of dealing with hot vampire bodyguards? Don’t fall in love.

After losing both her parents before age seventeen, aspiring designer Caitlin Holte feels like her whole world has been turned upside down, and that was before the terrifying encounter with a supernatural force. Then, she learns that her hot bad-boy neighbor, Adrian—who might have just saved her life—is actually a half-demon vampire.

Suddenly Caitlin is stuck with a vampire bodyguard who feels that the best way to protect her is to become her pretend boyfriend. Trouble is, Caitlin is starting to fall in love for real, while Adrian can never love a human. Caitlin trusts Adrian to keep her safe from his demon father, but will he be able to protect her heart?

“Oh my gosh, you totally have a Gryffindor scarf, don’t you? And an Elder wand and a Goblet of Fire. Tell me you have a Goblet of Fire.”

He blushed, and it was adorable. “No Goblet of FireI might have the wand.”

“Why would I fall in love with you? You’re just a hot, closet-nerd vampire with a bazillion dollars and a Harley. There’s absolutely nothing attractive about you.”

“I’m repulsive, I know.”

“What is it with you and running away from me?” he asked quizzically, slinging an arm over my shoulder.

“Maybe you’re hideous, and I can’t stand the sight of your face,” I offered casually.

He looked thoughtful. “Mmm, no, that’s not it.”

“You’re cute when you do that,” he called to me.
“When I do what?”
“Turn in a circle like that. It’s kind of penguin-y.”

“Great,” I called back. “Just what every girl dreams of being told by their inhumanly attractive, immortal vampire protector: they look kind of ‘penguin-y.”

 REVIEW
This was my first vampire read since Twilight and I was a little hesitant going in, BUT I’m here to tell you all that this novel is NOTHING like TWILIGHT. This novel is funny, Snarky and witty. The plot was great and flowed throughout the story. The book pretty much revolves around Caitlin and Adrian and I loved that.  it was pretty much just the two of them, but You still meet other characters.

After Caitlin’s mother passes away. She is forced to move into her Aunt’s house (whom she never met before) in a new town. All Caitlin wanted to do was grieve her mother’s death, but on the first day in  Stony Creek she happens to  attract the attention of a Very powerful demon and now must be protected.

Enter swoon worthy Adrian de la Mara! The half demon vampire who will be her bodyguard and pretend boyfriend.

Caitlin’s, and Adrian’s relationship is adorable and witty. Caitlin will have you laughing throughout the story and Adrian will most like have you swooning and drooling at some point. They complement each other well and they would make a great couple. However the one rule that Adrian must follow is not to fall in love with a human. But as time passes and the more Caitlin and Adrians hang out, the more their feelings grow for each other.

I‘m 100% rooting for Caitlin and Adrians relationship, I’m so glad there will be two more books in this series. I’m waiting for the next book to be released.  If you love snarky and witty stories this is a good series for you, Especially if you want a break from all the serious reads.

EXCERPT

“Sorry I dragged you away from dinner,” I said, realizing the time. “You want to eat with us?”
He seemed to consider it, then shook his head. “I’d better get back. Gotta take my medication.”
I arched a brow questioningly. “I thought your immune system kicked ass?”
He laughed. “Sorry, ‘medication’ is what we call it when we need to drink blood. It’s kind of an inside joke.”
“Oh.” I said, blushing for some reason. I should have kept my mouth shut, but curiosity got the better of me. “Does ittaste good?”
He stared at me for a long moment, before his gaze drifted down to my neck.
“You can’t imagine.”
My pulse jumped, half in fear and half insomething else. His voice had gone low and liquid, his eyes were burning silver.
“Hey Cait?” he murmured, and though he hadn’t moved an inch, it felt as though he were leaning towards me.
“Yeah?” I whispered.
He wasn’t looking at me in the eye anymore, just staring somewhere above my chest and below my jaw. The sound of my own heart seemed loud in my ears, and if I could hear it, so could Adrian.
His eyes flicked to my face. “You should really get out now.”
I blinked. “Yeah.”

I scrambled to undo my seatbelt and almost fell out of the truck. I could hear the click of the automatic locks snapping into place the moment the door was closed. Adrian peeled out of the driveway, back into darkness.

Temple West, debut author of the YA paranormal romance Velvet, is as nerdy in real life as she is on the Twitter. Armed with a very shiny English degree, she spent four months in Oxford holed up at the Radcliffe Camera amongst the hush of ancient books and the rich musk of academia. Returning to Los Angeles, she acquired a concurrent degree in film, mostly as an excuse to write essays about The Princess Bride and Hook. She can sew (poorly), drive stick (please fasten your seatbelt), and mostly lift her feet off the ground while stuttering into first gear on a very small motorcycle. She currently lives in Seattle and is the proud mother to a one-year-old laptop and a vintage Remington typewriter.
