Never date your best friend.

Always be original.

Sometimes rules are meant to be broken.

Best friends Dave and Julia were determined to never be cliché high school kids—the ones who sit at the same lunch table every day, dissecting the drama from homeroom and plotting their campaigns for prom king and queen. They even wrote their own Never List of everything they vowed they’d never, ever do in high school.

Some of the rules have been easy to follow, like #5, never dye your hair a color of the rainbow, or #7, never hook up with a teacher. But Dave has a secret: he’s broken rule #8, never pine silently after someone for the entirety of high school. It’s either that or break rule #10, never date your best friend. Dave has loved Julia for as long as he can remember.

Julia is beautiful, wild and impetuous. So when she suggests they do every Never on the list, Dave is happy to play along. He even dyes his hair an unfortunate shade of green. It starts as a joke, but then a funny thing happens: Dave and Julia discover that by skipping the clichés, they’ve actually been missing out on high school. And maybe even on love.

My Thoughts.

First of all, I have to say that I don´t know why I didn´t read this book before!!! Thanks to the generosity of an amazing friend, I had the opportunity of reading it after all this time, and I know that if this was the second time I read it, my thoughts would be exactly the same.

I love Contemporary books because of a lot of reasons, the MAIN reason is that I love to read about love stories <3 I´m a hopeless romantic and if you are one too, then this book is perfect for you.

This story is about two best friends who want to have an original experience in high school, they doesn´t want to do the same things as the rest of the students, an so they create THE NEVERS LIST, a list that will hopefully guide them through their journey in high school.

Dave, one of the main characters of the story, is a very romantic kind of guy, he´s in love with his best friend but he have never told her his feelings for her. He´s an amazing guy, the one who will always be there for his friend when she needs him the most, even if that means he has to do crazy things out of his comfort zone. He has always imagined himself in a relationship, with someone who loved him, and so when he finds a girl, things start to change in his life. And then we have Julia, she´s the one who had the idea of starting to do all the things they wrote about NOT doing, she wants to know what they have been missing, but once they start, things start to change.

This book is a must read, it’s one of those books that from the moment you finish reading it, you want to start reading it again to capture every single word and meaning the writer wants to transmit us. It´s about real life problems with friends and family, and the way how we sometimes have to make decisions in order to be happy with ourselves even if that sometimes hurts the ones we love the most or the other way around, putting someone else´s happiness first.

It captures real life struggles in high school, how sometimes we judge people without not really knowing them and how we sometimes try to fit with the people who surround us.

It was about how to find ourselves, but at the same time never forgetting who we truly are.
