GOODREADS

Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of Death and Destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire…

But Akaran has its own secrets — thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most. . .including herself.

A lush and vivid story that is steeped in Indian folklore and mythology. The Star-Touched Queen is a novel that no reader will soon forget.

MY THOUGHTS

The Star-Touched Queen is a wonderful story and I love it oh so very much! I was sucked in from the very beginning. Roshani Chokshi has a very vibrant way in telling this beautiful story. Along with such elegant and magical world building. This story is so unique and interesting. I honestly havenโ€™t read any Middle Eastern fantasies. There really arenโ€™t that many, unfortunately.
But this storyโ€ฆ. this was just outstanding and captivating. I know Star-Touched Queen will be loved by many. Iโ€™m STILL, in such a daydream state about this story. I havenโ€™t left this compelling magical world and I donโ€™t want to leave. I want to stay in Naraka in the crystal garden and the eating demon horse!!!!! I want to stay forever.

I adored Maya SO MUCH! Sheโ€™s such a STRONG character. If you know me and my reviews. You know, if I don’t like the characters, forget it. Evenโ€ฆ. Yes, even if the writing is amazing. What good does the writing style do if the characters arenโ€™t likeable? It just ruins the story completely for me and the enjoyment is gone. But Roshani Chokshi, sheโ€ฆ. She made Maya, SO, SO, impressive, determine, strong, witty and oh so loveable.

I seriously canโ€™t say enough about this OUTSTANDING standalone story. The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi is a must read! If you love fantasies, culture, diversity and a lush and vivid story that is steeped in Indian folklore and mythology. Then this story is definitely for you.

About the author

Roshani Chokshi comes from a small town in Georgia where she collected a Southern accent, but does not use it unless under duress. She grew up in a blue house with a perpetually napping bear-dog. At Emory University, she dabbled with journalism, attended some classes in pajamas, forgot to buy winter boots and majored in 14th century British literature. She spent a year after graduation working and traveling and writing. After that, she started law school at the University of Georgia where she’s learning a new kind of storytelling.โ€‹ The Star-Touched Queen is her first novel.

Can’t wait until my copy of this gets here, it sounds utterly stunning and I just know I’ll love the protagonist. I have been so hyped by this book that I actually started making some graphics without having read it haha. Your S6 design is gorgeous and this quote is one of the reason why I picked up the book in the first place. I love the use of the gold and the rich gemstone hues, it is very reminiscent of Indian fabric and jewellery.
