He was raised in revolution. She was raised in a palace. Can their love stop a war? Code Name Verity meets The Winner's Curse in Joanna Hathaway's Dark of the West, a breathtaking YA fantasy debut.

Aurelia Isendare is a princess of a small kingdom in the North, raised in privilege but shielded from politics as her brother prepares to step up to the throne. Halfway around the world, Athan Dakar, the youngest son of a ruthless general, is a fighter pilot longing for a life away from the front lines. When Athan’s mother is shot and killed, his father is convinced it’s the work of his old rival, the Queen of Etania—Aurelia’s mother. Determined to avenge his wife’s murder, he devises a plot to overthrow the Queen, a plot which sends Athan undercover to Etania to gain intel from her children.

Athan’s mission becomes complicated when he finds himself falling for the girl he’s been tasked with spying upon. Aurelia feels the same attraction, all the while desperately seeking to stop the war threatening to break between the Southern territory and the old Northern kingdoms that control it—a war in which Athan’s father is determined to play a role. As diplomatic ties manage to just barely hold, the two teens struggle to remain loyal to their families and each other as they learn that war is not as black and white as they’ve been raised to believe.

Hello lovely people❤
I hope you all have an amazing and wonderful day today😊 What are you guys reading?📚 What book have you been recommending more lately? Please let me know in the comments below, I always love to find more books to add to my TBR🤓📚

Today I want to share my thoughts about a book I’ve read recently. I loved this book and to be honest, it is really one of the books I have been recommending to my friends lately❤ It kept me on the edge of my seat and once I started to read it, it was impossible for me to put it down and I swear I’m not exaggerating!

Dark Of The West by Joanna Hathaway was everything I expected it to be and more. I have to say, I really can’t believe I had the amazing opportunity of reading an early copy of this book. I remember that, when I first heard about this book, I immediately added to my TBR because I just loved the premise. It sounded amazing and I just knew I had to read it. Imagine my surprise when I got the ARC, I literally jumped out of emotion🙌

Aurelia is a Princess of a kingdom in the North. She was a very brave character who tried to do everything in her power to save the lives of the people that have suffered because of war. And Athan… He is the son a very important General who believes Aurelia’s mother is the one who killed his wife and so they all travel to where Aurelia lives and Athan tries to get information from Aurelia while being undercover…..

Dark Of The West is a story full secrets, lies, hidden identities, letters, that I found myself reading more than once and romance… A romance between two teens, from opposite worlds, that fell in love during war😭❤ Their love is forbidden, their families have secrets of their own and little by little as the story unfolds, they discover things that have the power to change everything as they know it.

Aurelia was a very brave character, she tried to do everything in her power to save those who were affected by war and she always surprised those who surrounded her with the way she acted and how she defended herself. Athan was pilot who wanted to not be part of the war. I fangirled a lot because these two are just perfect for each other❤ I loved the way they met, their conversations, how often Athan tried to make Aurelia laugh, their letters and how they fell in love…😭❤🙌

But of course that’s just one part of the story. There’s action when you least expected and the twists! THE TWISTS GUYS!!!! THOSE ARE THE BEST! This is the kind of book that I see myself reading again soon, IT WAS PERFECT. This book will leave you speechless for sure!

The characters kept surprising me again and again with their ambitions and actions. Whenever I read about a certain character it was as if they were real people and I love that. It made the story feel more real and it definitely made me want to keep reading more, too meet them, to read about their pasts and see why they acted the way they did.

Jonna’s writing style was perfect. I felt like I was watching a movie while reading this book and it was just AMAZING. There were lots of details, amazing descriptions and complex characters. It was beautifully well written and I really can’t wait to read the second book😍🙌 I really can’t wait to read more books from Joanna, she’s an amazing author and one of new favorite all time authors!

Dark Of The West is definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year and you guys should definitely add it to your TBR📚🙌

About Joanna Hathaway

Joanna owes her love of books to her great-grandfather. His memoirs about life as a teenage soldier in the First World War inspired her, at a young age, to enter the complex and provocative realms of history—and she hasn’t left since. Born in Montréal, Canada, she grew up on the doorstep of New York City, then spent her teen years riding horses through the forests of Southwestern Ontario.
Her debut novel, DARK OF THE WEST (Tor Teen, 2018), is the first in a WWII-infused fantasy series of forbidden love and deadly revenge.

Covers draw my interest first, and this one didn’t really, but as soon as I saw “The Winner’s Curse” mentioned in the description, I was like – ohhhh – time to explore this one. Wow – this book must be really good, if you’re recommending it to everyone. I love me some forbidden romance! Those are the ones that give me the big pitter-patter feelings, because you’re constantly afraid that something bad is gonna happen. Thanks for sharing your thoughts <3
